INSTANT CAMERA TRACKING
WHAT
IS KOALA?
KOALA represents a true innovation in the world of broadcast and virtual production. This unique inertial tracking system stands out for its ability to simplify and improve production operations.
KOALA firmly attaches to the camera and becomes its ally, moving with it and providing precise real-time tracking information.
HOW
DOES IT WORK?
KOALA ‘senses’ the movements of the camera and sends the PAN, TILT, and ROLL data.
If you use the CRANE option, you will also get the XYZ position of the camera.
Along with this data, it captures ZOOM and FOCUS information from the Virtual connector on broadcast lenses or through external encoders in other cases
STYLE
LENS

get ZOOM and FOCUS data from high resolution encoders
or direct connection from VIRTUAL output of your lens
(Canon or Fuji)
HEAD

mount KOALA on the camera placed on a tripod,
and you’ll instantly get PAN, TILT, and ROLL data
CRANE

add KOALA Crane option and you will also have
the XYZ position of your camera mounted on a crane
“Koala is great for beginners and useful for experts”
WHY
USE KOALA?
Simple and Fast
Quick and hassle-free setup. No need to equip the floor or ceiling, and no receivers are required in the studio. There’s no need to calibrate the environment. Everything is manageable through a simple web interface, with no additional software or complex settings.
Small and lightweight
Truly small, fits in the palm of your hand, does not interfere with camera movements, and adds almost no weight: a significant advantage for crane use.
Perfect for being carried even in hand luggage.
Reliable and affordable
Free from external light interference, works in any lighting condition, indoor & outdoor, even while covered in the rain.
No dedicated hardware required and compatible with existing equipment.

SMART
FUNCTIONS

FAQ
There is an hourglass symbol on the display. What does it represent?
It means that the initial ‘warm-up’ phase is not yet complete. KOALA must be turned ON while ensuring it remains perfectly still. Wait for 3 minutes during the initial warm-up phase to allow the inertial systems to stabilize properly. Once the ‘warm-up’ phase is complete, the hourglass disappears, and KOALA can be moved. However, we recommend waiting 10-15 minutes if you want to achieve optimal performance.
Alternatively, manually start the STABILIZATION procedure or perform a reboot.
There seems to be a drift in the PAN data. How can I resolve it?
The drift is primarily caused by an incorrect startup of KOALA, which must remain perfectly still when powered ON and wait until the ‘warm-up’ phase is complete. Additionally, avoid harmful interference with the inertial systems as explained in the manual. These interferences can be checked using the dedicated function in the menu INFO > INTERFERENCE.
I have connected everything, but I see that the tracking data is not being generated.
If you see the data changing on the INFO > DATA screen but it is not reaching the workstation, it is likely a network configuration issue. Check the destination IP and port if it’s an Ethernet connection, or verify the serial parameters as indicated in the manual.
If the data does not change even on the INFO > DATA screen, it means the SYNC signal is missing. You can temporarily try setting a manual data rate in the web interface, but in a broadcast environment, it is absolutely necessary to use the SYNC signal (Genlock PAL or NTSC).
I moved KOALA, and now the virtual scene is not leveled in TILT and ROLL.
You need to redo the AUTOLEVEL procedure. If you are using KOALA on a tripod, level the tripod, the head, and the camera, then start the AUTOLEVEL function. If KOALA is mounted on a crane, everything must be aligned starting from the tripod, the crane support, the crane, the head support, the head, and the camera. Once everything is leveled, start the AUTOLEVEL function.
AUTOLEVEL needs to be redone if KOALA or the KOALA CRANE option is moved or reassembled.
I disconnected and reattached the crane option while it was powered on. Could this cause any issues?
Yes, it is possible that the option was not stationary while being reconnected and during the following 3 minutes required for initial stabilization. In this case, drifts in the camera’s XYZ position may occur. It is necessary to power OFF and ON the system and wait for the ‘warm-up’ phase to complete while keeping everything perfectly still.
Do I have the option to view an event LOG?
Yes, on the web page, there is a LOG button that opens a page where you can view all the events that have occurred since KOALA was powered on.
